BMW is excited to offer an innovative driving experience for enthusiasts: the BMW M Drift + M Mixed Reality. This unique program allows participants to drive real BMW M4 Competition Coupés while racing and drifting within virtual reality race circuits.
Launched earlier this year, the BMW M Drift + M Mixed Reality experience is now accepting reservations. Hosted at the Maisach Driving Academy, this Mixed Reality (MR) experience provides a racing and drifting adventure unlike any other. It transcends traditional driving simulators by combining real-world driving with immersive virtual reality.
Participants begin their journey at the Maisach grounds, where they receive training in controlling the M4 under extreme conditions, including drifting techniques. Once proficient, drivers are equipped with state-of-the-art Varjo VR headsets. This allows them to navigate through virtual race circuits, all while physically driving and drifting the M4 on the Maisach tracks.
The BMW M4 Competition Coupé acts as an interactive game controller. This seamless integration of real and virtual is made possible through the myriad of sensors in BMW vehicles. These include GPS, acceleration, tire rotation, and brake sensors. The data collected from these sensors is fed into the simulation, merging with the virtual car and race tracks, and then displayed in the VR headset. This setup offers a driving experience more realistic and thrilling than any video game.

Powered by a robust 503 horsepower engine, the M4 Competition Coupé boasts a 0 to 60 MPH acceleration time of just 3.4 seconds. Complementing this power is the high-resolution Varjo VR headset, which brings the virtual world to life.
