Intel to Boost Semiconductor Tech at Gordon Moore Park, Hillsboro

Intel, a titan in the semiconductor industry, recently announced exciting plans for significant advancements in its semiconductor technology development facilities. This development is set to take place at the Gordon Moore Park at Ronler Acres in Hillsboro, a key site for Intel's semiconductor research, technology development, and manufacturing in the United States.

Located at 2501 NE Century Blvd. in Hillsboro, the Gordon Moore Park campus is gearing up for a substantial upgrade. This initiative is being supported by the state of Oregon, the city of Hillsboro, Washington County, and is anticipated to receive backing from the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, as per Intel's recent news release.

Intel's investment in its Oregon facilities is a segment of a larger strategic plan. Pat Gelsinger, Intel's CEO, announced at the Intel Innovation event in September that the company intends to invest over $100 billion across the U.S. over the next five years. The plans for the Hillsboro campus include enhancing the existing technology development facilities and bringing a high-numerical aperture extreme ultraviolet lithography tool online. Furthermore, Intel is initiating the application process for permits, laying the groundwork for a potential multibillion-dollar expansion in its research and development, as well as manufacturing capacities.

These investments are expected to create several thousand new jobs, both permanent and in construction, further bolstering the local economy.

The significance of this expansion was highlighted in a recent celebration event in Hillsboro, attended by Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and Intel executives. This investment reaffirms Hillsboro's status as the epicenter of Intel's research and technological development. The city is a substantial contributor to Oregon's economy, accounting for 4% of the state's employment. This investment not only solidifies the city and county's position as the hub of Oregon's burgeoning technology industry but also benefits the vast network of local suppliers and contractors that support Intel’s operations.

Intel's Oregon site, the company’s largest with over 22,000 employees, stands as a testament to its commitment to innovation and economic growth in the region. This latest investment by Intel is not just a boost for its own operations but is poised to have a ripple effect across the entire technology sector in Oregon, promising new opportunities and advancements in the semiconductor industry.
