A free community screening of The Internet's Own Boy, the documentary about Aaron Swartz's life, work and fight for an open internet. November 8 would have been Swartz's 40th birthday. Portland Civic Lab is organizing the evening as a chance to remember him, reflect on his belief that knowledge should be accessible and that technology can give people more power over their lives, and consider how to carry that spirit forward in Portland. The format is simple: a short welcome, the film, and a brief closing. No technical background or prior familiarity with Swartz's story is needed. Organizers are also looking for volunteers and partner communities, and can be reached at edan@portlandciviclab.org.
