Hack for Humanity: Portland is a one-day civic hackathon hosted by The AI Collective and sponsored by Google, part of a global event running across more than 120 chapters in over 50 countries this fall. Builders spend the day working with Google Gemini on human and community challenges, continuing the conversations started during Humans in AI Week. Teams choose one of two lanes: an offline-first bilingual census tool that helps volunteers in Pijao, Colombia record household impact and set aid priorities during earthquake recovery, or a public transparency dashboard for a Portland nonprofit showing how funds and project phases move, later adaptable for relief work abroad. The day runs from check-in at 10:00 AM through lane briefings, build time, project submissions, demos, judging, and closing remarks by 5:00 PM. Engineers, designers, product managers, researchers, and curious beginners are all welcome, and no team or idea is required because organizers help with both. Food and drinks are provided and space is limited to about 60 builders. Registration requires host approval and the event is 18+.
