Full job description

Amazon Prime Air is seeking an experienced drone maintenance technician for flight test operations at the Pendleton UAS Range in Eastern Oregon. You will maintain experimental and prototype drones that continuously change in hardware, software, and configuration.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on a diverse fleet of test drones
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections
  • Manage configuration control: verify each drone is correctly configured to its assigned test card
  • Troubleshoot novel failures and non-standard issues using independent diagnostic reasoning
  • Maintain ground support equipment, battery systems, and spare parts inventory
  • Work from limited documentation and identify systemic trends across a mixed fleet

You will spend 85-95% of your time hands-on with hardware in an outdoor field environment, collaborating with flight test engineering and flight crews to ensure each drone meets airworthiness standards and is ready for its next mission. The role requires flexibility for shift work, up to 50% travel, and regularly lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • UAS maintenance, flight testing, or drone operations background
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and/or Part 65 Airframe & Powerplant License
  • Knowledge of FAA maintenance regulations
  • Demonstrated safety prioritization in maintenance/aviation roles
  • Experience with configuration management and inventory tracking systems
  • Proficiency with coding/scripting languages and CAD tools

Requirements

  • 2+ years of mechanical and electrical integration or assembly experience
  • Experience installing sub-assemblies while working to drawings or CAD files
  • Ability to carry/lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk during 12-hour shifts
  • Proficiency with common business applications like Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Comfort working in variable noise levels and outdoor/temperature-controlled environments
  • Flexible schedule availability including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Valid driver's license and motor vehicle background check eligibility
