Full job description

Hands-on Applications Mechanical Engineer/Designer turning customer use cases for Digit — Agility's humanoid robot — into physical reality: CAD, detailed BOMs, and documentation for warehouse and manufacturing deployments. This is a "do" role.

What you will do:

  • Design customer workcell layouts — robot placement, material flow, operator access, safety zones
  • Design and detail custom fixtures, carts, jigs, staging equipment, and material handling interfaces
  • Test and integrate off-the-shelf hardware — barcode scanners, sensors, light curtains, mounting hardware
  • Produce production-quality CAD models, drawings, and BOMs for fabrication and field assembly
  • Assist with customer site surveys and support on-site cell setup and commissioning
  • Adapt end-of-arm tooling and gripper interfaces for customer-specific manipulation requirements
  • Build a library of reusable designs that accelerate future deployments

Qualifications

  • Experience running simulation of warehouse automation or material handling equipment
  • Background in applications engineering at a robotics or automation company
  • Experience with gripper design, end-of-arm tooling, or manipulation system interfaces
  • Familiarity with industrial integration hardware — barcode/2D scanners, safety-rated devices
  • Jack-of-all-trades mindset; aptitude to learn safety standards for robotic workcells

Requirements

  • 5+ years in mechanical design, applications engineering, or designer/drafter role with a portfolio of deployed designs
  • Proficiency producing detailed drawings and BOMs in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
  • Practical experience integrating off-the-shelf hardware into mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with standard fabrication methods: sheet metal, machining, weldments, 3D printing
  • Hands-on capability to assemble fixtures and troubleshoot fit issues alongside field technicians
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for site surveys, deployment support, and commissioning
