Full job description

AWS is opening a hardware engineering office in Portland to become a center of excellence for electrical hardware engineering. This is a first-hire, greenfield site leadership role responsible for the site's culture, operations, hiring pace, and engineering output.

Own site operations end to end: define the site's identity and cadence, recruit multiple engineering teams, and work with real estate and facilities on lab-capable space
Represent Portland in cross-site planning with Seattle, San Jose, and other AWS engineering locations
Hire and develop the engineering managers over board development, server power, manufacturing test and quality, and third-party silicon validation
Set technical direction, allocate resources across teams, calibrate talent, and coordinate with co-located BIOS, BMC, and mechanical engineering teams

Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Strong connections to the Portland metro tech labor market, including the semiconductor and hardware ecosystem
Experience standing up electrical labs (board bring-up, manufacturing test infrastructure, silicon debug facilities)
Experience building culture in a new site, team, or organization
Experience leading organizations spanning electrical hardware, power delivery, silicon validation, and manufacturing

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
10+ years of progressive hardware engineering experience, including at least 5 years managing managers
Track record of building and scaling hardware engineering teams from the ground up
Deep technical knowledge in at least two of: board-level electrical design, server power delivery, manufacturing test engineering, silicon validation
Proven ability to hire senior technical talent in competitive markets
